Let’s have a look at some lippies that have been my go-to throughout the summer. I’ve been pretty low-maintenace overall, and I’ve been sticking to fuss-free semi-sheer options that are easy to reapply so I can eat all the ice cream my heart desires. Priorities, right?
the glossy stains
I’ve raved about the the Face It Artist Finger Gloss in PP401 in previous favourites, but it has been hands-down my favourite option for an effortless red lip. I absolutely love the formula of this lip stain, since it has the sheen of a gloss but it’s not sticky at all, and it has great colour payoff in the most comfortable formula ever!
It’s a great option for when you want a fuss-free bold colour, and it leaves a lovely rosy-red stain as it dries down.
Now, the Face it Artist Finger Gloss in PK101 and I did not get along at first, since it’s a cooler-toned pink and has a tendency to settle into my lips. Otherwise, the formula is just as comfortable as the red one, and as long as I don’t apply too much, we get along just fine.
It’s another easy option for summer that I’ve been wearing quite a bit, and I especially love pairing it with a stronger eye makeup, since it works well as a pinky-nude (and ties in nicely with the Joe Fresh Blush Stick in Radiant Rosette).
the beloved lip crayon
Quite possibly one of my favourite lip products of all time, the Clinique Chubby Stick in Chunky Cherry will always have a special place in my heart (and my makeup bag). I love the ease of use of this product, the comfortable emollient formula, the subtle sheen and the gorgeous pinky-red shade!
Basically, it’s a great option if you’re looking for a sheer pop of cherry pink that’s super quick and easy to swipe on.
the classic combo
While I love my bold lips, this summer I really enjoyed exploring more neutral avenues. The Marcelle 2-in-1 Retractable Plumping Lip Liner in Rose Velours is one I enjoy wearing on its own with a touch of lip balm, or wearing under lipstick.
It’s not drying, it applies smoothly and the brush is very good, especially if you like to blend your lipliner into your lips so it looks more natural or even. The peachy shade is lovely, and it tends to go with a wide variety of looks and lipsticks.
My favourite combination (that I’ve actually mentioned in June’s favourites and am still loving!) is this lipliner with the Malena Glossy Lipstick in 04, another summer favourite, because together they create a great neutral/pinky colour that has just a hint of glossiness.
The Malena lipstick is actually a lot more pink on the lips, and can get a little messy because it’s so creamy (I think the swatch speaks for itself, it was pretty hot when I took the photos and this one decided to get all melty :P), but it’s comfortable to wear and lovely for adding a touch of pink to your lips.
Swatches in natural daylight
Thank you for stopping by, and I hope you’ve enjoyed my summer lip picks. With summer nearing its end, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited for autumn…all that taupe, plum and berry goodness!
Now, while we’re still in August, what are your favourite lip products for the summertime?
Take care & see you soon!
